First Post: Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Kitty Fix! This is a blog, mostly photos, featuring my foster kittens.

The most important thing is that you should . . . SUBSCRIBE!!!

In case I just lost you: Subscribing makes sure you'll get the new entries automatically to your RSS reader. Just like getting a magazine in the mail, only on your computer. (Most people use Google Reader - just go to THE GOOGLE READER WEBSITE and get it all set up. Mucho convenient!) Ok, now that you're caught up . . .

Here are the basic factoids: I've just started fostering my first litter of foster kittens! I work through Kitten Rescue, a very organized group in Los Angeles which works to find homes for cats, mostly through a very extensive foster program, but they do have facilities. Here's their website, in case you're interested in getting involved: Kitten Rescue Website

Anyway, my 5 little furry faces were born as street kittens in Kern county (hot!) about 10 weeks ago (around April 19th). Somebody's grandma started feeding the kittens when the mom cat disappeared (coyote?), and the grandma called her granddaughter, who called somebody, who called somebody else, who called Ben (Prez Extraordinaire of KR), who apparently has a hard time saying "no". ;-) Anyway, I had asked for kittens, then he got this call, so the kittens got a green light to hit Hwy 99 down to LA, and 24 hours later they were in my spare bathroom!

Here's a snap of the gang at Ben's house when I picked them up. It took about 6 tries to get the shot with all 5 kittens! Bodie (the big one in front wiggling) kept escaping to go exploring.

So why am I fostering kittens? Well, NO, I'm not the "crazy cat lady". Having just gone through kittenhood with Harley, however (Read Harley's blog too!), I realized that kittens (at least ragdoll kittens) aren't as difficult as people would have you believe, and are way more fun than they say! So I wanted more around, TEMPORARILY. So fostering is my way of having a few kittens around, playmates for Harley, and doing a good thing by finding them homes. Without owning more kats.

I was also inspired by THIS BLOG (Itty Bitty Kitty Committee). This is a gal in Tacoma who fosters litters of kittens and blogs them with the sweetest photos and stories. Seeing her success at getting them adopted made me realize mine would get adopted too -- (I *was* a little worried that I'd be stuck with them forever initially). So stop by her site (or SUBSCRIBE!!) for a smile or two each day. She has cute kittens and is good with a DSLR (and better at the prose stuff than me!)

OK, enough boring talking, here are some pictures:

Here they are, literally 10 seconds after climbing out of their carrier:

And here's a shot of the whole gang after getting settled in (Taz is underneath, as usual):
